I offer full service landscape design services to contractors across North America. The process is super straightforward: you send me detailed measurements and photos of the site, along with the client’s wants and needs, and I’ll create a one of a kind design they’re sure to love. My team will put together a presentation package with detailed information on the plants we’re recommending, light fixtures, hardscape finishes, and more.
Who is this service for?
Over the years I’ve created online landscape designs for a lot of landscape contractors. Here are a few ways I’ve helped them sell more, build more profitably, and grow their businesses.
Just getting into bigger projects
I’ve worked with a lot of landscape companies that followed a pretty common path. They may have started with maintenance and enhancement jobs and now they’re getting more requests for foundation plantings, patios, and walkways. The owners are skilled craftspeople who do great work but they don’t have a ton of design experience. That’s where we come in. Because we bill hourly in 15 minute increments, we’re surprisingly cost effective on projects as simple as foundation plantings.
Growing fast!
My bread and butter is landscape companies that have a little bit of install experience and now they’re experiencing rapid growth. The owners used to do all their landscape designs. Now they’re just too busy selling and managing crews. In a lot of cases, growth means they’re getting the opportunity to work on projects that are a little (or a lot!) more complex than they’ve designed before. That’s where we come in. Landscape Design Lab is the perfect solution for when you NEED a dedicated designer but you’re not quite ready to add that position to the org chart.
I need backup!
I’ve worked with a couple of companies who already have designers on staff. They used my services because they were bringing in so many leads their in-house designers just couldn’t keep up. I’m also available to help train your designers, to fill in any gaps in their knowledge that are holding them back. I design because I love creating. I consult because I love to educate.
What kinds of tasks can you do?
I’m here to do anything you would have your on-staff landscape designer do. That includes:
- complete landscape design from start to finish
- turning your ideas/sketches into a finished landscape plan
- creating HOA submission documents
- creating permit and construction drawings
- doing material and quantity takeoffs for you to estimate
- creating material and finishes books for the client and crew
My team and I can do as much or as little as you want.

What do the plans look like?
When you sign up with Landscape Design Lab, one of the first things I do is convert your logo into a CAD file I can use across all your drawings. This means that my online landscape design plans all carry your branding. If you have a company style guide with specific fonts and colors, those get incorporated into anything we do for you.

All landscape plans are created using Land F/X. Land F/X is a landscape industry specific program that uses AutoCAD. That means that we can import CAD files from surveyors and engineers. It also means that our drawings are very, very accurate.
Land F/X allows us to quickly create color rendered landscape plans. This makes it easier for the customer to understand what things will look like. It also makes for a more colorful, exciting presentation. Land F/X also lets us quickly generate plant lists complete with recommended quantities, sizes, and remarks.
I can also create complete plan sets for more complicated hardscape and carpentry projects. If you need a retaining wall, deck, porch, or addition I can do that too.
Landscape plans aren’t just for the client. An accurate plan leads to an accurate, PROFITABLE build. Our CAD layout plans allow your crew to create a landscape that looks just like what the client expected.
How does the online landscape design process work?
To see current pricing, please click here to request my rate sheet. I bill hourly for my time, in 15 minute increments. After designing landscapes for 20 years, I’m fast and efficient. I structure my fees so that the more you use my services, the better the pricing. Here’s how it works.
Tier One
Tier One is for what I call “casual” clients. Maybe you only need a designer a few times a year, or maybe you just want to try it out and see how the service works. For this I just bill hourly at my standard rate.
Tier Two
Tier Two is for clients who are moderate users of my services, around 20-30 hours per month. Tier Two users pay a monthly retainer equal to 20 hours of my services on the first of each month. In exchange, they receive a 20% discount on all hourly rate services. Anything over 20 hours is invoiced at the discounted rate as well. If you use less than 20 hours in a month, those remaining hours roll over to the following month.
Tier Three
Tier Three is for clients who are heavy users of my services, usually 40 hours per month or more. Tier Three users pay a monthly retainer equal to 40 hours of my services on the first of each month. In exchange, they receive a 35% discount on all hourly rate services. Anything over 40 hours is invoiced at the discounted rate as well. If you use less than 40 hours in a month, those hours roll over to the following month.
The design process
Once we establish a billing plan we’re ready to get started! As part of your onboarding we will review how to provide the information we need, but here’s an overview:
- I use Basecamp as a collaboration and project management platform. Everything gets uploaded to Basecamp so we can all be sure we’re on the same page.
- upload photos of the site per my instructions
- upload measurements of the site per my instructions
- upload the scope of work the client wants to do
- upload any inspiration pics or links from the homeowner
The more information you can give me, the better the design will be. Once I have the preliminary design completed I will post it to Basecamp and we can confirm that we’re going in the right direction. From there I’ll complete the design and my team will complete the supporting documents.
Presenting to the client
I can be as involved or as hands off as you want when it comes time to present the design. If you want to present the design on your own I will give you everything you need to create a great presentation. If you want me to present the design with you via Zoom, so I can answer any questions they have, I can do that too. My goal is helping you go from the design to a signed contract!
